Corset Dominance
Make no mistake, the corset continues to reign as the stylish
layering piece that adapts to a wide range of scenarios. Look
no further than Swift, who paired a black Victoria’s Secret
silk corset with a red windowpane skirt suit by Versace when
she attended a Kansas City Chiefs game in November. (In
case you’ve been living in a closet, the superstar has been
dating Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce since the summer of
2023.) At the CFDA Awards in October, Addison Rae put
corset dressing on steroids courtesy of Thom Browne, who
designed a charcoal-hued corset with a shaped hem to pair
with a plaid mermaid skirt from his archives.
K-pop star Lisa, meanwhile, chose a custom embroidered
corset gown by Casey Cadwallader for September’s MTV
Video Music Awards. Cadwallader is creative director for
Mugler, a Paris house known for its iconic corsets. And
while not a full corset, Charlize Theron’s Schiaparelli look
at November’s Baby2Baby Gala in Los Angeles blended a
halter gown in ecru crepe jersey with a denim waist cincher,
a decidedly modernist take on a piece that’s been around
since 1000 B.C.
